SUMMARY:Midday Mass
DESCRIPTION:Catherine of Siena\, Mystic and Prophetic Witness\, 1380\n\nYoungest of twenty-five children\, Catherine Benincasa of Siena experienced a vision at age six that set her on a lifelong path of prayer\, service\, and fearless witness. Though criticized and misunderstood\, she remained committed to Jesus and served the sick during times of plague. Her spiritual authority grew\, and her letters to popes and rulers urged peace and reform during the great papal schism. She is remembered for her mystical writings and her unwavering conviction that God had claimed her heart completely. \n“Grant unto us the same strength of conviction and power of love that\, as we rejoice in her triumph\, we may profit by her example.” \n  \nLamentations 3:31-36 \nPsalm 36 \n1 John 1:5-2:2 \nLuke 12:22-31

SUMMARY:Midday Mass
DESCRIPTION:Today we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. \n \nAlmighty God\, by whose providence your servant John the Baptist was wonderfully born\, and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Savior by preaching repentance: Make us so to follow his teaching and holy life\, that we may truly repent according to his preaching; and\, following his example\, constantly speak the truth\, boldly rebuke vice\, and patiently suffer for the truth’s sake; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord\, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \nThis feast honors the miraculous birth of the prophet who prepared the way for the Lord. The son of Zechariah and Elizabeth\, John was born to elderly parents through God’s promise and is described in Luke’s Gospel as a relative of Jesus\, arriving six months before him. When Zechariah doubted the angel’s message announcing John’s conception\, he was struck speechless until the child’s birth\, when his voice returned in the canticle of praise known as the Benedictus. John grew up to live an austere life in the wilderness\, clothed in camel’s hair and sustained by locusts and wild honey. His preaching called the people to repentance and renewal in preparation for the coming of the Messiah\, and his baptism of Jesus in the Jordan marked the beginning of Christ’s public ministry. The Gospels remember him as both prophet and forerunner\, who pointed beyond himself to the One who was to come\, declaring\, “He must increase\, but I must decrease.” John’s feast celebrates his courage\, humility\, and faithfulness\, inviting the church to follow his example in proclaiming the truth and preparing hearts for Christ.

SUMMARY:Midday Mass
DESCRIPTION:Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. \n \nAlmighty God\, whose blessed apostles Peter and Paul glorified you by their martyrdom: Grant that your Church\, instructed by their teaching and example\, and knit together in unity by your Spirit\, may ever stand firm upon the one foundation\, which is Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you\, in the unity of the same Spirit\, one God\, now and for ever. Amen. \nThe Feast of Saints Peter and Paul\, celebrated on June 29\, honors the two towering figures of the early Church whose witness and martyrdom shaped Christian faith and mission. Though remembered individually—Peter for his confession of Christ on January 18 and Paul for his conversion on January 25—the Church joins them in one feast\, recalling the tradition that both were martyred in Rome during Nero’s persecution around the year 64. Peter\, the fisherman from Galilee\, and Paul\, the scholar and missionary of the Gentiles\, differed greatly in background and temperament. Their early disagreements over the inclusion of Gentile believers gave way to a shared devotion to Christ and the gospel’s spread throughout the world. Tradition holds that Peter was crucified upside down\, deeming himself unworthy to die as his Lord did\, while Paul\, a Roman citizen\, was executed by the sword. Together they represent the unity of faith amid diversity of calling—Peter\, the steadfast shepherd of the Church\, and Paul\, the tireless preacher of grace. Their feast invites the faithful to stand firm on the same foundation\, Jesus Christ\, and to bear courageous witness to the gospel in every generation
