SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday Supper & Service
DESCRIPTION:Maundy Thursday\nJust as I have loved you\, you should also love one another. \nMaundy Thursday in the Episcopal tradition is the Thursday of Holy Week commemorating the Last Supper\, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist and washed his disciples’ feet\, giving the “new commandment: to love one another. \nWe will join together for a meal beginning at 5:30\, followed by a service of Holy Eucharist at 6:45\, which will include foot washing and the solemn stripping of the altar.

SUMMARY:Tenebrae
DESCRIPTION:This service will be held in the Chapel of Holy Communion – accessible through memorial garden. \nThe name Tenebrae comes from the Latin word for “darkness” or “shadows.” A distinguishing characteristic of this service is the series of readings from Lamentations which appear early in the office. The distinctive ceremonial of Tenebrae includes use of fifteen lighted candles\, often set on a special\, triangular stand. One candle is extinguished as each of the fourteen appointed psalms is completed. The fifteenth candle\, symbolic of Christ\, is left lighted at the end of the final psalm. But it is carried away to be hidden\, which signifies the apparent victory of the forces of evil. A sudden loud noise is made at the end of the service\, symbolizing the earthquake at Christ’s death. The lighted candle is then restored to its place\, suggesting Christ’s eventual triumph.

SUMMARY:Tenebrae - Service of Shadows
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Holy Wednesday April 16\, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Chapel of Holy Communion below the sanctuary for a solemn service of scripture and prayers by candlelight.  Tenebrae is the Latin word for “darkness” or “shadows”.  The service consists of chants of Lamentations\,  After each psalm is recited\, one of 14 candles is extinguished until the end of the service when only the Christ candle remains lit. \nEnter the Chapel of Holy Communion from the Memorial Garden on the side of the church off Locust Street.  Tenebrae provides an extended meditation and serves as a prelude to the events in our Lord’s life between the Last Supper (Maundy Thursday) and the Resurrection (Easter Sunday). \nNote the service does not include Communion or a Sermon.  The Reverend Martha Harris\, Pastor\, and The Reverend Hank Morrow\, Deacon will preside.  Meditative music will be provided by Father Rick Bauer\, Rector\, St. Edward’s Episcopal Church.  All are welcome.
