We honor Augustine of Canterbury, sent by Pope Gregory the Great to bring the Gospel to Anglo-Saxon England. Arriving in 597, Augustine baptized King Ethelbert and became the first Archbishop of Canterbury. His mission laid the foundations for English Christianity and exemplified patience, wisdom, and cultural sensitivity. Augustine’s willingness to adapt Roman, Gallican, and local customs shaped a Church rooted in unity and diversity.
